What Should You Know About Dog-Friendly Hotels?

It can be hard leaving man’s best friend for a weekend. Especially if throughout the week, you are already at work and not spending enough time with them. That’s why dog friendly hotels are much sought after by pet owners.

But, what should you know about dog-friendly hotels? Find out more here at Highfield House.

Plan Ahead

So you’ve found a dog friendly hotel. It is important to think about the area where you are staying and how convenient it is for your pet. Make sure there are plenty of fields and areas for long walks. Or, if you are wanting to go into the city or town centre, we recommend making sure they are microchipped and have an ID tag just in case of an emergency.

At Highfield House, we have an amazing 8 acres of woodlands for you and your pets to explore. Through forests and green fields, your dog is free to roam and find new places to make their own. Also, as Driffield is a small town, you don’t have to worry about busy roads with hundreds of cars. It can be daunting walking your dog in a big city, especially if they get nervous. This way, you still are taking your dog out with you on your weekend escape, but in a safe and convenient way.

Look For a Hotel That Provides Essentials

You thought packing for yourself is bad. Try making sure your pet has all its essentials. Who knew dogs were so pampered? They will need their food, blankets, coats (depending on the weather) and something to sleep on. Certain dog friendly hotels provide “welcome packs”, such as bowls and toys. Make sure you check their website when registering your dog.

Here at Highfield, we are currently in the process of completing a dog-friendly apartment that has a dedicated entrance, luxury dog beds and toys to entertain your pet during the day. Along with this, we will be launching our own guides to country walks, specific dog menus and a dog sitting service. So, make sure whilst your dog is in the window, you are watching this space!

Mind Your Mess

Although you are paying for a service, remember there are other guests there. Respect the rules set forth by your dog-friendly hotel with respect. Make sure your dog isn't dirty before entering the room and bring sheets and blankets to cover beds and soft furnishings to keep them clean. Keep the hotel's exterior clean as well; stock up on poop bags and always pick up after.

Place to Relax

Dog friendly hotels are ideal for when you are wanting quality time with your pet. And this includes relaxing in between exploring.

Here at Highfield, our Upper Terrace is the perfect place to get a drink, relax in the sun and let your dog take a break from walking all day. Or, if they are still feeling energetic, the terrace looks onto a vast green field. You can watch your pet while enjoying yourself with food and drink. Our catering services include a wide inclusive menu that your pet can definitely take a nibble of. Kick back on our comfortable sofas with a cocktail in your hand.

Make Sure They Get Plenty of Exercises

But, what if you are wanting to go out at night? Or experience the hotel’s evening activities? Typically, if you want a nice meal, the situation may be ruined if you are having to deal with your bored dog. When booking dog friendly hotels, it is important to remember that you will have to keep your pet fully occupied with exercises, so that you can have this alone time later on. Walking your dog throughout the day is a great way to let them have fresh air (and tire them out). Then, towards the end of the night, you have the opportunity to enjoy adult activities.

The Highfield House has a wide variety of events and evening activities to enjoy after a full day. Why not trip down to our Evening Parlour? Order one of our signature cocktails and relax on our comfortable chairs.
