Why Yorkshire is the Perfect Weekend Escape

A combination of four areas, Yorkshire is the largest county in the UK when it comes to space. It’s no wonder that couples and families around the country decide to holiday there when looking for a weekend escape. No matter North, South, West or (our favourite) East, no one can deny that Yorkshire hosts some of the most beautiful sights in the country and has a wide range of history attached.

At Highfield House Hotel, our countryside hotel is ideal for those wanting a tranquil home away from home. So, we’re here to break down why our country is ideal for weekend escapes and how our Yorkshire hotel can help you with your next event.

City Options

Though stereotypes of Yorkshire include the beautiful countryside, made famous in literature and films such as Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights and Kes (1969), there are various busy and popular city destinations. Why not visit Hull? Whether this is to walk through a shark tunnel at The Deep, or to see its various museums and art galleries. What about York? Which is one of the most historical cities in the county. Just from leaving the station, you are faced with the various walls, where Yorkshiremen defended their land from various invaders. Or, to just visit the pubs, which there is one for every day of the year.

For your weekend escape, it is vital to find the best hotel to stay at and unwind from the busy day. At Highfield Hotel, we are a short drive away from major Yorkshire cities York and Hull. Conveniently, we are located a 15-minute walk from the train station, further opening your options for city and seaside options.

Historic Hotel

Another great thing about Yorkshire weekend escapes is the history surrounding the area. The county itself has survived various Viking attacks, which only grew more violent through the 8th century and the oppressive rule of the Roman Empire

It should come as no surprise that our Yorkshire hotel, Highfield House, also has a vast history. Starting as a mill which was destroyed in 1860, Highfield’s second owner, Harrison, commissioned a Victorian architect to expand the building in a gothic yet Victorian architectural style. We have since carried out renovations to upkeep the luxurious character and design.

Beautiful Views

Yes, we said that Yorkshire isn’t just countryside views. But, come on. Why wouldn’t you want to go to the countryside? Especially if you live in a populated area, sometimes the countryside is just the weekend escape you are needing. Lose yourself in the vast amount of open fields and woodlands; for example, in the Yorkshire Dales.

At Highfield, it isn’t just our boutique accommodation. Surrounding our Yorkshire hotel, we have 8 acres of woodlands for our guests to explore. Whether this is finding the perfect spot for wedding photos, or just finding your inner explorer. Highfield is perfect for those wanting to take a break from city life and be one with nature.

Our Yorkshire Hotel

At The Highfield House Hotel, we have the capability to host a wide range of events. Based in Driffield, East Yorkshire, our boutique accommodation caters specialised festivities including quirky weddings, business meetings and luxurious group parties. Or, why not just stay in our Yorkshire hotel? Take a well-deserved weekend escape in the countryside and enjoy our views.
