Things to do in East Yorkshire This Summer

Looking for things to do in East Yorkshire this summer? It can be hard finding activities through the holidays to entertain the family, especially when the kids break up from school. They need entertainment. And, around East Yorkshire, there are lots of activities to occupy their time and give you that well-deserved break.

Find out what East Yorkshire days out you can have this summer. And what is happening at Highfield House, based in Driffield?

Day at the Beach

What better way to celebrate the sun than a day at the beach? Might as well make use of the sun. Chances are, we won’t see it after September.

East Yorkshire’s coast runs 53 miles and supports a large number of breeding seabirds like puffins and razorbills. These include seaside towns Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea. Bridlington is just a short 20-minute drive from Highfield or a 40-minute bus. There are many typical activities you can experience at Bridlington, such as walking along the promenade and exploring plenty of family entertainment. Then, after a day of family fun, come back to Highfield House, our Yorkshire hotel, and wind down in our parlour rooms.

Museums and Aquariums

When looking for things to do in East Yorkshire, why not delve into historical and cultural activities? Museums have long been a chance for families to look back on the past and how far humanity has come. Especially in the county of Yorkshire. In East Yorkshire, why not visit Beverley Guildhall which holds the community museum? Just a 20-minute drive from Highfield.

Or, explore our Highfield House. Our Grade II-listed house is a staple of Driffield’s community and has its own interesting and extensive history. With rooms such as the reception hall, library bar, upper and lower galleries and an evening parlour, the Victorian gothic architecture still permeates the building. One of Hull’s main attractions, The Deep attracts hundreds of families each month and encourages them to explore its exhibits. It’s no wonder why the aquarium hosts varying events throughout the year, showcasing their most engaging fish. This summer, there is a focus on all things sharks. From the mouth and teeth to the strangest things that have been found in a shark’s stomach; we’re not talking about Alex Kintner either.

The Deep is only a short 45-minute drive away from Highfield and is a perfect destination for a day trip. After, simply relax in one of our many grand rooms, full of custom cocktails, delicious food and, of course, plenty of wonders to do your own exploring.

Highfield Events

This summer, we have planned various activities throughout our grounds for you and your family to enjoy. We practically have an event every day of the week! Whenever you are available and looking for things to do in East Yorkshire

For families, all our lunches are child-friendly. With our 8 acres of woodlands, there is plenty of room for garden activities and traditional garden games, such as rounders and cricket. There are also private picnic spots on our grounds that are able to be booked for those wanting a little family alone time.

Why not come to our Thursday Night Live? Starting from August the 4th, we are transforming our Thursdays and getting you ready for that Friday feeling. With a night full of delicious food, live acoustic performances and cocktails, it is a night for all the family. Whilst the children play through our grounds, you can keep an eye on them from our upper terrace as you relax to music from local artists.
