3 Quirky Wedding Themes Inspired By Your Favourite TV Shows

Does anyone even want a traditional black and white wedding anymore? With so many different styles and quirky wedding choices, soon-to-be-married couples are choosing what they most love to be included in their big day plans. And, in the 21st century, of course, that means our favourite TV shows.

Highfield is a luxurious Yorkshire hotel, based in Driffield, East Yorkshire. Our Victorian/mock Elizabethan merchant’s house is ideal for a period drama setting, or to showcase the 1920s glamour look. Here are just 3 ideas on what your quirky wedding theme could look like.

Downton Abbey

We have spoken before about how our Highfield is a perfect double for the Crawley estate. With high ceilings and gorgeous arc decor, you can transform into ladies and lords, instead of part of the downstairs.

Highfield is perfectly located in the countryside to add to the beautiful photography of the day. Pose on our steps and enjoy our incredible views of the Yorkshire countryside. Or, make an entrance that will never be forgotten on our grand stairs. Our Stitch Suite is complete with a partitioning screen for privacy as you delve into the victorian-style bath.

At Highfield, we are here to cater to your specific quirky wedding ideas. Let us help you create core memories that you will cherish forever. Our stunning reception hall is sure to make an impression on all your wedding guests.

Peaky Blinders

Now for something completely different.

Put away the tux and get your flat cap on boys! The hit BBC series may have finished in 2022, but it lives on as a wedding theme. Dress up as the Shelbys, complete with elegant 1920s-style dresses and 3-piece suits. Our Yorkshire hotel can double as Thomas Shelby’s house, with its various luxurious rooms and 8 acres of woodland grounds. Finish the entire look off with vintage car hire to transport you and your wedding party around our venue.

But, it’s always the little things. Decorate the space with black and gold combinations, including detailed wedding table decorations to fully immerse your guests in your wedding theme. This quirky wedding idea is a perfect alternative to the traditional. Which is what we love to see at Highfield!

Bridgerton

Let’s take it a little further back in time. To the time of dance cards and the Queen choosing her diamond of the season. Yes, the 19th century.

Seemingly coming out of nowhere, the Netflix series has captured our attention (and made our hearts beat a little faster). It’s no wonder why it was one of the most popular wedding themes of 2022, with so many wanting to recreate the love story of Daphne and Simon.

Though you may feel it may be over the top, there are simple touches of the Regency period that will stand out from other wedding themes. Why not stick with the Regency blue colour palette, which could be used on table decorations and the style of bridesmaid and groomsmen clothing. Make sure you take photos in our Grand Hall which features royal blue throughout.

Or, in line with the Netflix show, you could hire a string quartet for your first dance. The series recreated popular songs, such as Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy, as a classical symphony. So, why not revive this idea for your own first dance?

Plan Your Highfield Alternative Wedding Today
