Wedding Planning Tips

It's wedding season once more, which means flowers, beautiful gowns, and extravagant cakes. However, there is the possibility of severe stress. If you're a bride-to-be, here are our top wedding planning tips to help you through the process.

Whether you hire a wedding planner or not, it's no secret that wedding planners are experts at everything from setting a budget and managing the guest list to designing the flowers and décor. Don't worry if you don't have the budget for a full-service wedding planner. At Highfield, we’re here to assist you in starting the planning process and, more importantly, enjoy it!

Start Wedding Planning Early

Late wedding planning can severely restrict your wedding options. Not only for finding the perfect venue, but also for finding the perfect dress, flowers, and caterers. Not to mention giving your guests enough time to book their reservations for your special day! Late planning, in most cases, means having to settle for a 'second best' venue, poorer service, and a wedding that falls far short of your expectations.

Find the Perfect Wedding Venue

You should ask yourself two questions when looking at venues. What kind of wedding are you looking for? And how many people do you intend to invite? Only after you've determined the answers to these questions should you begin looking into potential venues. After all, you want everyone you love and care about at your wedding whether it's 20 or 200 people, so it is important to know whether they will all fit into your dream wedding venue.

Highfield is a Victorian/mock Elizabethan merchant's house with a lot of character, making it the ideal location for an out-of-the-ordinary wedding. Our Reception Hall is a deep royal blue colour, perfect for pre-wedding photography of the couple before or after the ceremony. Guests will be able to roam the beautiful and magical grounds after the ceremony, or even visit our quirky Library room for refreshments.

Our eight acres of ancient woodlands and manicured grounds can be transformed into opulent enchanted forests or delicately decorated with magical décor to assist you in creating something outrageously romantic. Meanwhile, you'll avoid the headaches of a remote outdoor ceremony whilst also being able to rest assured that there is enough room for all of your guests.

Find a Menu You Enjoy

Many future brides and grooms are concerned about the wedding breakfast menu and become engrossed in the specifics of others' preferences. At Highfield, we always recommend that couples select a menu from which to choose their favourite dishes. We serve approachable fine dining, making everyone feel welcome regardless of their taste. Because we celebrate classic British cuisine and serve it in our fabulously luxurious entertaining rooms, we call it Great British Dining.

We also cater for those with special dietary requirements such as gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and keto diets. This way nobody has to miss out on your amazing wedding breakfast!

Make Wedding Planning Fun

With so many details to consider, wedding planning can be extremely stressful. It's easy to lose sight of the importance of enjoying the journey. Make as many planning events as possible into a celebration. For example, if you're having a dress fitting, meet with your bridal squad afterwards for afternoon tea or bubbly.

At Highfield, we encourage our guests to visit our beautiful venue to get a feel for their special day. You could, for example, host your engagement party with us so that your guests are familiar with their surroundings before the big day. This is also great for those who plan on documenting the occasion as your engagement and wedding photography will flow together. This also means you can find all the perfect spots for photos before the rush of the wedding.
