“East Yorkshire’s best kept culinary secret”
AA TWO ROSETTE 2024
Monday to Saturday: 5pm - 9pm (11pm Bar)
Sunday Roasts: 12pm - 5pm (8pm Bar)
1864 opened in June 2023, and is headed up by chefs Mark Langton & Rhys Baylis. We all have a passion for classic, fresh & local cuisine and along with the brigade owners Andy & Lindsey Lampard can be found foraging, gardening, prepping, cooking and serving.
From the moment you enter, HIGHFIELD is there to embrace you with a grand but homely warmth. Heritage designs and artistic details tell stories of provenance and history which are then carefully balanced with simple cotemporary styling. Nestled within 8 acres of grounds, gardens and woodland, the full experience of HIGHFIELD is to bring the beauty of the outside to your table.
The menu reflects our combined love of food. Keenly focused on East Yorkshire, locally grown, foraged and seasonally sourced produce is presented with a respect for creativity and balance.
Over a hundred and fifty years of local heritage, grand creativity and fascinating stories. Our dining room dates back to 1864. Whilst the surroundings have an inspiring grandeur and heritage our food and drink is simply an expression of the very best of the British seasons.
With doors leading out to the upper terrace, you are surrounded by the sights, scents and flavours of the delicious kitchen gardens & ancient woodlands.
OUR ETHOS
Sustainability gives flavour…
Its not a hollow buzz word for us. Our customers may travel great distances to dine with us but our food never does. We love quality local produce and we grow our own in the kitchen gardens and glass house here in the grounds of Highfield House. We forage from our woodlands and we source from our local farms and ports. East Yorkshire has an amazing abundance of producers, catchers, keepers and growers and the Chefs here at 1864 take great pleasure in creating seasonal menus to showcase the very best.
No Waste…
The best flavours come from the skilful techniques of using ingredients to there full. Unlike many other establishments we make all of our stocks and sauces from scratch in house using only natural ingredients.
We know working with the best ingredients and using the best techniques, however time consuming, adds flavour. Our off cuts and trims and made into pies, sandwiches and staff food, We understand our impact and are continuously working to reduce our food mileage through responsible sourcing, reduced food waste and economising our energy consumption.
68% of staff walk or ride to work.
72% of our energy is from windfarms.
100% non bio in our in house laundries
100% non one day plastic disposable.
100% green waste is composted in our grounds.
100% waste oil, metals, cardboard & plastics recycling.
Yorkshire food…
Yes we know it has to look good, and taste good but we are also from East Yorkshire: We love good sized portions. We love options. We love experiences. We love rich British flavours. We love quality. We love good value.
