Which Vintage Wedding Theme Should You Choose?

Incorporating vintage features into your wedding day is not only environmentally friendly but also sentimental. Incorporating elevated elements from the past that are rich in history, rather than consistently insisting on something brand new, can make a space feel special. Furthermore, choosing vintage ensures that your design, fashion, and decor aspects are unique, rather than generic or easily replicated. But which vintage wedding theme is right for you?

Roaring 20s Vintage Wedding

Consider Great Gatsby, 1920s cool, Prohibition-era speakeasies, and all the glamour of this sophisticated era when planning a 20s vintage wedding. A colour theme that includes black, gold, white, and even emerald green for contrast to pull this look together. For your stationery and wedding day details, you'll need a lot of those iconic 1920s fonts, as well as a lot of glam and luxurious décor. This theme is filled with old-school chic, thanks to stunning bridal gowns, accessories that scream 1920s elegance, and sharp suits for the gentlemen.

If you love classic glamour and want to put a historical twist on a black-tie wedding, a 20s wedding is the perfect vintage wedding theme for you. Bring this aesthetic to life with vintage props such as feathers and fringing, cocktails and beverages in gorgeous glassware, and always keep the word 'luxury' in mind. The Highfield House is a Victorian/mock Elizabethan merchant's house with a lot of character, making it perfect for a vintage wedding. Our reception hall is ideal for those brides and grooms who dream of a Downton Abbey style wedding and our Library Bar would fit perfectly with a Great Gatsby inspired wedding.

1940s Vintage Wedding

1940s-inspired weddings can include a plethora of iconic details, allowing you to create something truly unique with this vintage wedding theme. Make-do and mend details abound in 1940s weddings, so recreate the look with mismatched tableware, simple bunting, shortened dresses with 'victory roll' hairstyles, delectable wedding buffets, and plenty of handmade accessories.

If you enjoy the community feel of the 40s, or if you simply enjoy big band music and the history of the time, a 1940s wedding could be ideal for you. Use a lot of seasonal cut flowers, jam jars, and even a few extra details like menus printed on ration cards, invitations, and telegram stationery. Don't forget to book a band that will keep you dancing all night! At The Highfield House you can spend your wedding night in The East Wing Apartment which is beautifully designed with a vintage flair and a touch of class.

1950s Vintage Wedding

A 1950s vintage wedding is adorable in every way. Knee-length dresses with full skirts, birdcage veils, pastel colours, and all the other details that conjure up images of this fabulous era. This is an enjoyable and fabulous theme that everyone enjoys.

If you want a vintage wedding that is more fun than formal, the 50s is the era for you. You can incorporate a variety of influences, such as films and music, and don't forget about the polka dots and elegant red lipstick! A 1950s wedding can also work in a variety of wedding venues. A country setting is ideal for a more relaxed take on 50s style, but a city setting can also work.

Swinging 60s Vintage Wedding

The 1960s had its style, and if it draws attention to you, celebrate it and deliver it to your wedding. You'll need bright colours, bigger hair, and maybe even a touch of pop culture if that's your thing!

A short wedding gown is a must, and bridesmaids in mini-dresses look stunning. Big wide headbands, beehives and bouffant styles, as well as guys rocking the mod look from the 1960s, are all must-haves. Lots of daisies, a bright colour palette, and retro props will do the trick in terms of décor. Mopeds, vinyl records, old school games, toys, and books are also useful for decorating your venue. You'll be able to find a variety of authentic décor and details online and in charity shops, and if you're really lucky, you might even find a genuine vintage wedding gown.
