How to have a Glamorous Gothic Wedding

For those couples who are drawn to the ‘alternative’, a gothic wedding is an elegant way to celebrate your special day. Rather than inheriting the traditional white gown and pastels, you can express your edgy personality and live your Addams Family dreams through grand food, fashion and of course your flower selection.

When planning a gothic wedding it is a good idea to choose your colour scheme before you start planning your big day. In addition to a deep black, you can romanticise your wedding with blood reds, berry purples and galaxy blues. After you have chosen your killer collection of colours, you can move on to the fun stuff.

Gothic Wedding Invitations

Your wedding invitations are the perfect opportunity to be creative whilst also setting the tone of your gothic wedding day. Surprise your guests with a delightful envelope filled with a coffin-shaped invite. For those who want to establish their magical day, why not consider your invites being showcased on the back of a tarot card?

Remember to include a classy element to your wedding invitations to set them apart from the typical Halloween greeting cards. Placing dried petals of your chosen flowers within the envelope and wrapping it in black lace is sure to be a pleasant surprise to intended guests when they receive it in the post.

Food & Drink

Weddings are all about food and fashion! Spoil your guests with a ghoulish wedding cake made from dark chocolate or red velvet. You can also challenge your baker to design a cake that best suits the phrase "Till death do us part". At The Highfield House, we offer two cocktail bars and an outdoor bar to help your guests wash down their sins at your alternative wedding.

Choosing your gothic Wedding Venue

You should choose a space that evokes age and old gothic glamour, to achieve your alternative wedding dreams. When choosing a venue look for details such as stained wood and fireplaces, to imagine how your wedding photographs will look. Don’t forget to look at a venue's outdoor space, a gothic wedding will look magical in a green woodland area with an old traditional building in the background.

The Highfield House is a Victorian/mock Elizabethan merchant's House and is rich in character making it the perfect venue for a gothic-inspired wedding. Our Reception Hall is in a deep royal blue and is perfect for those pre-wedding photography shots of the couple before or after the ceremony. After the ceremony is over, guests will be able to roam the beautiful and magical grounds, or even go to our quirky Library room where they can receive refreshments.
